Planned Moodle Downtime - Instructor Announcement

This message was sent as an email on July 6, 2018 to Moodle users listed as instructors from Summer 2016-2018

Moodle will be upgraded to version 3.5 on 8/18/2018. There will be no access to Moodle during the upgrade. The exact timing of system down-time to follow soon.

Why?

  • Our current version (2.8) is very outdated. Our Moodle provider strongly suggests we upgrade ASAP.
  • It is necessary to upgrade Moodle to the latest version to ensure stability and to maintain its integration with the Student Banner system.

What does it mean to me?

  • There will be minimal functionality and interface changes associated with the upgrade.
  • We are not migrating content to a different system - rather we are only upgrading the software. The content of your courses will not be impacted.
  • If you have assignments or assessments that students need to submit via Moodle on August 18th, please change the due dates accordingly (For assistance contact the Moodle helpdesk at  moodlehelp@ca.rutgers.edu or 973-972-8676)

How can I get Help?

  • Please see the attached documentation that outlines some of the main interface/system functionality changes.
  • In person and web-based training sessions will be offered in late July/early August, dates and times to be announced soon.

While there is no perfect time to do this, we have worked with your school-based Moodle support to identify a day that will have the least impact.

If you have any questions regarding the Moodle upgrade please send an email to moodleupgrade@docs.rutgers.edu.
